Rolling an Easy Cleaning

rolling an easy cleaning

Roller blinds are the current fad in window treatments for that elegant, modern and crisp look that almost fits with any interior décor. The best thing about them is that they’re great when it comes to blocking sunlight as opposed to heavy curtains that just might make you end up with an asthma attack! Too bad you can’t throw them in the laundry for a wash though.

So how do you make them all shiny once again? Simple… you’ll need a mild laundry detergent, bleach in case that’s an option, a sponge, your old toothbrush, warm water, a vacuum and a pair extra helping hands in case they’re available.

Once your checklist is complete… just follow the steps.

1. Start off with a thorough vacuuming in case your blinds are really dusty… you’d want to get rid of as much as you can before you pull them down.

2. Remove the blinds from the roller and carefully lay them flat on the floor… like we needed to tell you that!

3. You’re still not done with the vacuum. Use the brush attachment to get rid of any loose dust and bugs that managed to survive your first assault.

4. We forgot to tell you that you’ll be needing a bath tub as well… which youwill fill up with the warm water we told you to collect.

5. Throw in an appropriate quantity of the laundry detergent – as per how much you think you’d be needing to clean your dirty blinds – into the water. In case you’re blinds are white, a small amount of bleach wouldn’t hurt. We assume that you’re sensible enough not to do the same if they’re colored!

6. Gently place the blinds in the luke warm water like a handling a aby. If you’re blinds are too long… which they most likely are, place them in like an accordion. Allow them so soak in the soapy water for a couple of hours.

7. Start at one end and using a sponge, gently scrub the blinds back and forth to remove any remaining muck on them. No the toothbrush isn’t useless… use it for tougher stains.

8. One you’re done with that… drain the dusky water, refill with fresh water and rinse and repeat until they’re soap free. If you’ve got an extra pair of hands around, using a shower while holding the blinds vertically makes the job a whole lot easier.

9. Dry them in the sun, reattach and voila… you’re done!

And next time… try to clean them more often!
