Feng Shui… fung Shwooaye – or however you pronounce it – literally translates to ‘wind and water’ and is an ancient Chinese philosophy of bringing everyone into balance and harmony with their surrounding environment and living spaces. Though this art has been prevalent in Asia throughout millennia, it is has been gaining rapid popularity in western interior decor as well.

However, this art doesn’t only encompass how one should be placing objects, art and furnishings in their interior; in fact, it also governs the positioning of doors and windows in the building allowing the flow of positive energies through the space to create a healthier and harmonious lifestyle.

In short… 5 ways to achieve the basics of Feng Shui include

Feng Shui And Windows
Window placement is crucial to a good Feng Shui floor plan. You wouldn’t want to have too many many windows at the back of your building as that would weaken the energy. Also, doors and windows should not be in direct alignment as you would want to nourish the incoming good energy rather than have it flow out.

Beds and under windows are bad Feng Shui. It is believed that in order to regenerate your energy while you sleep, a hard headboard and wall to provide support are very essential. Sleeping under a window weakens your energy with time as it has neither proper support, not protection.

Window furnishings should be light and airy allowing easy flow of energy and light into your space. Blinds made out of sheers and organic materials are ideal.

We hope that helped. Don’t forget to check out a guide on Feng Shui colors though…
